US Insurer Goes Live with DSI Insurance Group Management Application

The start of 2008 saw DSI implement a substantial Group Benefit Management application for one of the largest providers of dental benefits in the Upper Midwest. The mid-west based Insurer is a US industry leader with more than thirty years of claims and benefit management experience.
The DSI-built application allows for significant operational efficiencies, providing an industry competitive edge in the set up and accessibly of real time group and benefits information for both operational processes and their customers.
Taking just over 18 months to develop and implement, the Java-based solution includes key components such as Oracle integration, an enhanced group information management system and a group mainframe interface. Specifically, the solution provides end to end workflow, from marketing entry to group and benefits setup and approval processes. Other time saving features include Benefit, Billing and ID card templates and an enquiry/compare facility for both group and benefit details.
The underlying technology for the Group Management Application includes:
- JSP, AJAX, DOJO and Struts to provide a feature rich user interface within a browser
- Hibernate persistence to allow data access from an Oracle Database
- Drools rules engine for easy maintenance of Business Rules
- Spring and POJO for the Service layer
- Runs in OC4J containers on the Oracle Application Server
Group and benefit components follow the "write once and use many" concept as they integrate into other J2EE applications such as CRM and Enrollment. Particular service components are used by a suite of internet applications such as online enrollment maintenance, group and benefit enquiry applications.
Approximately 93,000 groups, 132,000 subgroups and 21,000 benefits sets were loaded successfully to the new Group Application from multiple legacy oracle and mainframe applications. The application was load tested using MS Visual Studio 2008 Test suite. Performance was recorded and monitored in both the test and production environments using Quest Software’s PerformaSure tools.
